Gleb is a Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian male name derived from the Old Norse name Guðleifr, which meant "heir of god." Despite its Nordic origins it has seen steady use in Slavic countries due to an early martyr Saint Gleb who is venerated by the Eastern Orthodox churches.[1] Gleb was a name of the saint in Kievan Rus. The name was canonized by the Orthodox church in 1071 after the martyr deaths of Gleb and his brother, Boris.
